Artist Statement

artist and dog

I am a self taught artist, I have been making art for as long as I remember and have always felt the need to create.  Art work in ancient times was made for magical or religious purposes and the good stuff still carries the same purpose; to open up a place in peoples minds that was not open before.  I paint pictures of life, even the more abstract paintings are scenes of life, they all tell a story, capturing the essence and truth of ordinary situations in this and other dimensions.  Some of the scenes are from my imagination, which doesn't make them less real.  My influences are Matisse, Picasso, and DeKooning among others.  I hope you enjoy my work, and feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have.

"Color helps to express light, not the physical phenomenon, but the only light that really exists, that in the artist's brain." Henri Matisse

"There was a child went forth every day, and the first object he look'd upon, that object he became, and that object became part of him for the day or a certain part of the day, or for many years or stretching cycles of years."  Walt Whitman
